Tailored to the needs of dancers, choreographers, dance educators, and researchers, this course focuses on video and audio documentation of dance performance.

This is an experiential course emphasizing hands on training in video production and editing. During the quarter the students are responsible for filming and editing a full-length dance concert and creating a documentary on DVD.

Topics
Note: Course content varies based on student skill level and particular interests.
Introduction to the fundamentals of shooting with a video camera including camera placement, continuity, use of light, shot angles, and basic audio recording for dance documentation.
Principles of framing for the screen and capturing movement for video.
Creating a production plan for dance documentation.
Documentation of dance rehearsals, perhaps including behind the scenes interviews with dancers and choreographers.
Basics of video editing, including capturing, cutting and transitions. Organizational approaches to editing. Importing different video, audio, and media file formats. Creating text and title graphics.
Filming and editing a full-length dance concert.
Finishing and final output to DVD. Understanding output options and how to prepare for final output.
